Dogwood Parson: antimicrobial coating on hardened red oak

Dogwood Parson has an antimicrobial coating on top of the floor. It helps stop the growth of bacteria that cause odor, and mold and mildew that can harm the floor.

The coating protects the surface, where spills, pet accidents, and daily dirt land. It is part of the floor's finish, and it sits on top of real red oak that has been made much harder.

What the antimicrobial coating does

Helps stop odor

The coating inhibits the growth of bacteria that can cause odor. This is useful in homes with pets and children.

Helps stop mold and mildew

The coating also inhibits mold and mildew that can harm the floor.

Less worry about a missed spill

If you miss an occasional accident or forget to wipe up a spill, you have less to worry about mold growth. You should still clean up spills quickly.

Water resistant, not waterproof

This floor handles small spills and pet accidents better than standard hardwood. Wipe up standing water quickly. If a room stays wet, see our waterproof flooring.

The wood under the coating is harder, too

Many people avoid hardwood in a busy home because it scratches and dents. Dogwood was made to solve that problem. The oak is pressed with heat and pressure until it is twice as dense. Nothing is added to the wood to do this. There is no plastic and no filler.

Hardness is measured on the Janka scale. A bigger number means a harder floor that is harder to dent.

Standard oak flooring

About 1,360

Dogwood densified oak

Over 3,000

Dogwood is more than twice as hard as standard oak. Dog nails, dropped toys, and chair legs are far less likely to leave marks.

Common questions

What is an antimicrobial coating?

It is a protective layer on the surface of the floor. It inhibits the growth of bacteria that cause odor, and mold and mildew that can harm the floor.

Do I still need to clean up spills?

Yes. The coating gives you extra protection, but it does not replace normal care. Wipe up spills and pet accidents as soon as you can.

Will it hold up to a large dog?

Dogwood is more than twice as hard as standard oak. That is why it is sold as a pet-friendly floor. No floor is scratch-proof, but this one resists dents and gouges much better than regular oak.

Can I use it in a kitchen or basement?

It resists water better than standard hardwood, so it suits those rooms better. It is not waterproof. Wipe up standing water quickly, and follow the installation rules for basements.

How do I install it?

You can nail it, glue it, or float it. Our FAQ page explains grades and common installation questions.

Why is the price so low?

This is first quality flooring that the mill no longer makes. That is why we can sell it for less. When this lot is sold out, it is gone. You can also look at more engineered hardwood or red oak flooring.
